Ski Trip 2009

On January 22, thirty one RJC students and four staff members left school and its worries behind, trading them for the snowy slopes offered by Marmot Basin in Jasper, Alberta. While temperatures plummeted, flatlander spirits rose to meet the challenges offered by the mountain on both ski and board. Friday night was spent out in the town of Jasper enjoying the food and orange pop at Jasper Pizza Place, the swimming pool offered at our accomodations, The Jasper Recreation Centre, and finally appetizers at Earl's. By the second day it was clear that the trip had been a great success as many students retired from the slopes early, weary in muscle but happy of heart.

Pennies for Poverty windup

This years Pennies for Poverty winners.......The Girls!!!!!!!!!!!

The girls announce their winning total of $3225.00.
They will enjoy a dress code free day and the honor of eating first at lunch while they watch the staff do dishes.

The boys came in a close second with just under $3,000. The staff contributed just over $1000.00

The students display to PFP grand total:

Much of the money was raised through creative projects, like this snow shoveling drive.
Atta' go boys!

The girls focused their efforts on a bottle drive. They raised $300.00! A big thank you to all who supported this year's Pennies for Poverty campaign. We raised over $7,500 for a MCC day care project in Guatemala. We will post pictures of students working on the day care in late Feb. Stay tuned!!

RJC hosts Alumni Tournament

Saturday, January 3 was the day for the Tournament of Memories at RJC. Four men's basketball teams, 2 women's basketball teams and two hockey teams competed for bragging rights for another year. The 2008-09 girls basketball team was the winner on the women's side with the "old" alumni team (made up of alumni in their 20's) winning the men's side, stealing the staff's attempts at a repeat.
In hockey, an alumni team made up of seasoned veterans took on present students and their friends. Two close games ensued with the results too close to call.
An enjoyable time was had by all. Thanks to the alumni association for planning a fun day.

Winter Fun Day!

Each year the SRC plans an afternoon of winter activities for the whole school to take part in. With the temperature plummeting, this year we stayed on campus and offered both outdoor and indoor activities. Students could particiapte in the following activities: snow activities on the football field, shinny in the rink, board games in the school or a gym blast! After the games, hot chocolate was available to warm up. The afternoon went very well and the students enjoyed the afternoon outside of classes.
