Valley Action Field Day

The Grade 10 Class took the day off from regular classes on Friday to help out at the annual Valley Action field day.  Valley Action is a local sheltered workshop for adults in the valley area.  Our students helped run the events, participated with the athletes, and helped prepare a special barbeque lunch.  Enthusiasm was high at all the events. A good time was had by all!

Peace Fair 2011

On Friday May 13, 2011 the Peace and Justice Studies classes hosted a Peace Fair at the Rosthern Elementary School.  Groups of RJC students organized age appropriate activities that promoted peace and justice themes.  The event was a great success, with learning and fun all over the place!

Luke and Clay instruct the tots about the importance of water conservation.

Evan helps students rebuild after the destructive 'lego war'.

Zac and John teach kids about the trials and tribulations facing child soldiers.

Kiersten and Kate teach about the principles of fair trade with the use of chocolate chips and cookies, a sure hit!

Students painted peace slogans on rocks.  The rocks were used to anchor the origami peace tree in its vase.

Stuart leads some youngsters in a rousing rendition of 'Peace is Flowing Like a River'.

Cole and Ryan demonstrate how fun biking and scootering can be.  We don't always need to go places in vehicles, right Cole!?

A big thanks to everyone who helped make this a successful event!

Junior Senior Banquet 2011

The theme chosen for the Junior Senior Event this year was Super Mario Bros.  The 'juniors' (the grade 11's and 10's)  planned a surprise evening of fun for the 'seniors' (grade 12's).  A special banquet and activity was planned for the evening.  The evening ended with a special honoring ceremony for the grade 12 students.

Mario (Ryan) and Luigi (Luke) invited the grade 12 class to junior senior.

Laurel, Kelsey, Kyle and Kayla help decorated the dining hall for the banquet.
Gwen helps Doreen put the finishing touches on the special banquet meal that the kitchen staff prepared.

Crystal, Say Eh Htoo and Say Eh Wah work on table decorations.

The students participated a real live version of the game.  Here Bower has a round taken out of him.

The 3rd year students shared memories about the years spent together here at RJC during the honoring ceremony.

RJC Votes Election 2011

On Monday May 2, RJC students participated in Student Vote 2011.  In the weeks leading up to the vote Ryan and Joel's history classes conducted some research projects that allowed students to explore the federal parties.  These were presented in chapel so students could make informed decisions.  Following the vote the results were: Liberal 5, Conservative 12, NDP 18, Green 26.  These results were added to the national Student Vote 2011 totals.

Ryan gives a brief history lesson on how voting worked in the late nineteenth century, before the secret ballot.

Joel exhorts students on the importance of voting.  "Respect your freedom.  Vote."

Kirstin W. placed her ballot in the box.

Dan D. contemplates his future, and marks an X.
