RJC celebrates Milk Week!

It's MILK WEEK! In what has become an RJC 'tradition', the Milk Slam is originally a program sponsored by various milk producers in Canada, designed to encourage students to make a healthier choice with milk.  RJC has taken the program and added it's own twist - Milk Week is chock full of dress-up days, themed activities and prizes- and of course Milk.

Sadie Hawkins 2015 - Stone Age

The Girls' dorm hosted the annual Sadie Hawkins on October 21.  Sadie Hawkins is a themed school event where the girls 'ask out' the boys to join them for a fun evening of good food and fun activities.  The weeks prior to the event are full of creative invitations as the girls 'ask out' their dates.  The theme this year was Stone Age ( only with dinosaurs!) .  Costumes for the evening ranged from animals, to cavemen to dinosaurs to rocks!  A delicious meal was prepared for us by our very own kitchen staff.  We devoured ribs by our 'campfires'!  The evening continued with a trip to the Corn Maze.  Imagine 74 teenaged students trying to find their way through the maze in the dark!  The evening ended with a movie in the pit, Journey to the Centre of the Earth!

Fundraising Banquet 2015

The RJC Corporation Annual General Meeting and Fundraisings Banquet, held on October 24, was a huge success.  The event celebrated the achievements of the RJC athletics program through the years.  As part of the evening, alumni and current students were interviewed during a light-hearted Mennonite Sports Central Committee segment.  Some championship teams from the past who did not have banners on the wall were also recognized.  Their banners have been added, which give guests something new to look at the next time they visit the RJC gymnasium.

The gymnasium was filled to capacity.

The silent auctions items were popular.

Brent Guenther was Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

New banners (from years past were added to the RJC gymnasium walls.

Ryan "Miami" Vice Principal Wood and Karalee "Koolio" Kuny report to us live from Mennonite Sportcenter Committee.

The RJC/Husky Volleyball players were the first interview of the evening.

Multiple gold medal winning paralympian and RJC alumnus, Arnold Boldt, shared some of his most meaningful awards.

Boldt is now a competitive cyclist.

The final interview of the evening was the current students Austin Grismer and Jade Peters.

Austin and Jade compete in Track and Field events, and both won gold last year.  All the best in the 2016 season!

And now. . . a word from our sponsor : MIO SPORTS SQUIRT!!!!!

The RJC boys cheerleading team lead the crowd in some cheers!

Former RJC boys cheerleaders, Eldrid Roth and Brent Guenther, accept their banner.

Walter Peters, Jade's dad, also received a long overdue banner for his Gold Medal from his senior year at RJC.  This  father daughter duo will have their names on the same banner.

Don Regier modelled the one of a kind RJC jersey at the live auction

Board Chair Tammy Forrester and board member Nicole Tiessen thanked the crowd for their generosity.

Cheryl Schmidt had her jersey retired for her 20 years of service at RJC.  We will miss you Cheryl!

RJC CFO Margo Willie and Administrative Assistant Myrna Wiebe are recognized for 10 years of service.

RJC Alumni hosts Annual Alumni Soccer and Volleyball Tournament 2015

The annual Alumni Tournament took place on October 2nd and October 3rd.  Nine volleyball teams in total , 6 women's teams and 3 men's teams,  participated in round robin play.  The gym was packed as the glory days were relived!  Despite rainy and cooler weather, approximately 40 soccer players divided into two teams and had two games on Saturday.  The weekend was full of good food, good competition, and good spirit.  Lots of old connections were made and the school was full of smiles, laughter and sore muscles!
Mark on your calendars the dates for the Alumni Basketball/Hockey Tournament, January 8th and 9th 2016.  To register to play contact Denelda Fast at  deneldafast@hotmail.com
