Playing in the Park - Valley Regional Park day


On September 13th we all took the afternoon off of school to spend the afternoon at the Valley Regional Park.  The sun shone and the students and staff enjoyed goofing off for the day.  The SRC had a fun day of activity planned for us.

RJC Update Sept 18-25

EVENTS THIS WEEK INCLUDE:

- Thursday, Sept 20, 4:00 pm - Football game, Rosthern (RJC/RHS) versus Wakaw (at Wakaw School)
- Thursday, Sept 20, 4:00 pm - Girls' soccer game at Carleton Comprehensive (Prince Albert)
- Thursday, Sept 20, 4:00 pm - Boys' soccer game at RJC versus Cando
- Thursday, Sept 20, evening - Boys' volleyball scrimmage at RJC with Westgate Mennonite Collegiate (Winnipeg)

- Friday & Saturday, September 21-23 - Fall Choir Workshop at RJC.  All students are invited to participate.  Students will meet Friday evening and Saturday during the day.  On Sunday morning, the choir will meet again to prepare for a morning service at Zoar Mennonite Church in Waldheim.  The purpose of the choir workshop is to teach choral techniques to singers in an intentional setting.  It is also Part 1 of auditions for Chorale, the RJC chamber choir. 

- Monday to Wednesday, Sept 24-26 - Phys Ed 20 Out-trip to Grey Owl's Cabin, Prince Albert National Park.




UPCOMING EVENTS:

- SCHOOL PICTURE DAY - Friday, September 28.


- RJC HOME VOLLEYBALL & SOCCER TOURNAMENT WEEKEND, Friday & Saturday, Sept 28 & 29.  Our Boys' and Girls' Volleyball teams and the Boys' and Girls' Soccer teams will hold their Home Tournament together on this weekend.  If you have a student involved on any of these teams, come out and cheer them on.


- THANKSGIVING DESIGNATED WEEKEND - October 5 (afternoon) to October 8 -  Our first designated weekend of the year is Thanksgiving.  Classes will dismiss at noon on Friday prior to Thanksgiving, and resume Tuesday morning at 8:30 am.   The school residence will close at 2:30 pm on Friday (no supper served) and reopen again on Monday, October 8 at 3:00 pm.  All students need to make arrangements to travel home or stay with family or friends for this weekend.  If you are able to help us out by inviting one of our international students to spend the weekend with your family, please let us know by calling the Deans' Office (306 232-5665) or the RJC Business Office (306 232-4222).


- RJC ALUMNI TOURNAMENT WEEKEND - October 12 & 13 - Come join in the fun as a participant or a spectator!   Football (Spontaneous Fun on Saturday only), Soccer (Saturday only - meet in Rehearsal Hall at 10:00) and Volleyball.   A delicious lunch sponsored by Alumni is available between 11:00 and 1:00 in the Rehearsal Hall.  Email Denelda at deneldafast@hotmail.com to register for volleyball by October 7th or for information. Alumni and friends welcome.

First Days 2012-2013

The first days of any school year are full of excitement and excess energy.  Our days are full and we can't believe that  we are all ready into our second week of school.



Girls DC along with Boys DC and SRC spent several days preparing for the beginning of school.

Mel Siemens is in charge of the girls soccer team.  Our roster for fall sports also include the boys soccer team, the boys and girls volleyball teams and the cross country running team.

RJC Update Sept 11-18

These weekly updates are intended to keep you informed of calendar events, as well as notify you of any changes or corrections that we are aware of.  However, from time to time sporting events are cancelled or postponed due to weather, etc., and we encourage you to check with the school before traveling to games in case there are any last minute changes.

 


EVENTS THIS WEEK INCLUDE:

- Thursday, September 13, 4:00 pm - Football game, Rosthern (RJC/RHS) versus Aberdeen (at Aberdeen High School).
- Friday & Saturday, September 14 & 15 - Girls' Volleyball Tournament at Clavet.  
- Friday & Saturday, September 14 & 15 - Boys' Soccer Tournament  in Moose Jaw (Gutheridge Field).  RJC games are at 2:30 pm on Friday, and 9:30 am on Saturday, plus playoff games.

- Sunday, September 16, 2:30 pm - RJC OPENING PROGRAM.  Families, friends and alumni are invited to join us as we celebrate the new school year.  All current RJC students are expected to attend.  This is Concert Choir's first performance of the year, and attendance & participation are part of the Choral 10, 20 and 30 course requirement.  

- Sunday-Tuesday, Sept 16-18 - Grade 10 Class Spiritual Retreat at Camp Kadesh, Christopher Lake.  
- Monday, Sept 17 - Grade 11 Class Spiritual Retreat at Camp Kinasao, Christopher Lake.
- Monday, Sept 17 - Grade 12 Class Spiritual Retreat at Prince Albert National Park, Waskesui



UPCOMING EVENTS:

2012-2013 begins

Registration today! All students are invited for supper today at 5:30 pm. Right after supper the SRC/DC will lead the community in games and mixing. Of course, we are a school, and classes begin tomorrow (Tuesday.) Breakfast at 9:00 am for all students and staff. Watch this blog for updates through the year.

Final Week Reminders

Students are busy studying and writing exams, and Wednesday evening is the official dress rehearsal for OKLAHOMA.  It has been a busy, exciting week already!   Just a few last reminders for you:  


SCENT-FREE - RJC has attempted to be a scent-free environment in respect of those students and staff with serious sensitivities to perfumes, colognes, etc.   As we gather this weekend at the musical performances, at Rosthern Mennonite Church Sunday morning, and again in the gymnasium in the afternoon, we would appreciate your co-operation in not wearing scented lotions, perfumes. colognes, etc.   We have a number of students, staff, parents and alumni who will be on campus this weekend and who have extreme scent allergies.  Please help make this an enjoyable weekend for everyone. 


The rest of the week will go something like this:

THURSDAY:
- Youth Night performance of the RJC musical "OKLAHOMA", beginning at 7:00 pm.  This performance is open to students and chaperones, youth groups, youth pastors and sponsors, and perspective students.  Admission is $5 (rush seating) payable at the door.  


FRIDAY: 
- Exams are finished by noon, and students pack and clean in the afternoon.  The 2011-2012 yearbooks are handed out once cleaning is complete.

- Public performance of  "OKLAHOMA" beginning at 7:30 pm.  Tickets are still available for Friday evening.

- 12:00 midnight curfew.


SATURDAY: 
- Decade reunion groups meet on campus and around the Rosthern area during the day (1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992, 2002).

- The Alumni Association hosts a supper at 6:00 pm in the RJC Dining Hall, for alumni and decade reunion groups.

- Public performance of  "OKLAHOMA" beginning at 7:30 pm.  Tickets are still available for Saturday evening.

- Take-down of the set following the performance, and resetting of the gym for the graduation service.  Cast & crew party.

- 12:00 midnight curfew.


GRADUATION SUNDAY:

Baccalaureate Service at Rosthern Mennonite Church, 10:30 am:    Seating is reserved for grad parents/guardians at the front of the church until 10:15 am.  The church will fill up quickly, so please try to be seated between 10:00 and 10:15 am.  Extended family and friends will be seated behind the pews reserved for grad parents/guardians.  Graduates need to be at the church by 10:00 am.  Everyone is welcome.


Graduation Exercises, 2:30 pm:  Grad Parents/Guardians and Graduates need to be in the rehearsal hall at 2:00 pm sharp.  The Class of 2012 picture is taken at that time and we cannot do that until everyone is present.  Please be there at 2:00 pm with your graduate.  You will also be receiving final instructions at that time for the processional beginning at 2:30 pm.  During the Graduation Exercises grad parents/guardians sit with their student at the front of the gymnasium in designated seats.  Extended family and friends can choose their own seating behind this section.   Everyone is welcome.


- All students need to have their belongings moved out of the dorms by 5:15 pm on Sunday.   The dorms are closed at that time.  Grade 10 and 11 students are bussed to Saskatoon for a meal together, and then join the grads at the Western Development Museum for the evening's celebration.

- Graduates and their parents travel together to the Western Development Museum, for the Grad Banquet which begins at 6:30 pm.  

- All students (Grade 10, 11 and 12) are bussed to the Fireside location, following the celebrations at the WDM.  Parents need to pick up their student between 7:00-7:30 am Monday morning from the Fireside.

- RJC 2012 CHOIR CD:  The Choir CDs will be distributed this week to those students/families who pre-ordered and paid.  They will also be available for purchase during the evening performances of "OKLAHOMA".

Again, please help us keep RJC a scent-free environment this weekend as we gather for the various events taking place on campus.

RJC Update June 12-25

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

- RJC 2012 CHOIR CD:  Every year an RJC Choir CD is produced, featuring choir highlights from the past year.  You can pre-order your copy by calling or emailing the RJC Office ($15 – Visa or MasterCard accepted).  The CDs will be distributed during exam week, and available for purchase during the performances of "OKLAHOMA" and on grad weekend.


UPCOMING EVENTS:

1.    Youth Night performance of the RJC musical "OKLAHOMA", June 21, 7:00 pm -  This performance is open to students and chaperones, youth groups, youth pastors and sponsors, and perspective students.  Admission is $5 (rush seating) payable at the door.  Please contact Val White (val@rjc.sk.ca) or the RJC Office (office@rjc.sk.ca) if you want to bring a youth group or perspective students to this performance.


2. Public performances of "OKLAHOMA", June 22 & 23, 7:30 pm.  Tickets are still available for both evenings.  All seats are numbered and must be reserved in advance ($15 each).   


3. RJC GRADUATION, Sunday, June 24.   Everyone is welcome to join our grads, their families, fellow students and staff at the 2011-12 Baccalaureate Worship Service and Graduation Exercises on Sunday, June 24.  The Baccalaureate Service will begin at 10:30 am at Rosthern Mennonite Church (3016 - 5th Street, Rosthern).  The Graduation Exercises will begin at 2:30 pm in the RJC auditorium.  Gather with us to celebrate this important time in the lives of our students, our school and our churches.
