CONGRATULATIONS to the Girls' Volleyball team who advance to Provincials playoffs, and to the RJC Boys' Volleyball team who advance to Regionals!

  

EVENTS THIS WEEK INCLUDE:

- Wednesday, November 14, 8:00 pm - Midget hockey home game, Rosthern versus Shellbrook II, at the Rosthern arena.

- Friday & Saturday, November 16-17 - Girls' Volleyball 3A Provincial playoffs at Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute (LCBI - Outlook).  Go to  http://www.shsaa.ca/ets-game-results/4252  to see the draw.

- Saturday, November 17 - Boys' Volleyball Regional playoffs at Kinistino.   Go to http://www.shsaa.ca/ets-game-results/4290 to see the draw.

- Saturday, Nov 17, 5:00 pm - RJC CORPORATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING  in the school chapel (2nd floor), between 5:00 and 6:00 pm.   Everyone welcome.

- Saturday, Nov 17, 6:00 pm - RJC FUNDRAISING AND APPRECIATION BANQUET in the school gymnasium.  There are still some tickets available, but if you are interested in attending please call or email by Wednesday to reserve your seat.  

          We are still looking for a few parent volunteers to help with the banquet set-up on Friday afternoon after classes are finished (tables and chairs,    linens, decorations, silent auction displays, etc).  If you are able to help, please contact the RJC Office for more details.    

- Sunday, Nov 18, 7:45 pm - Midget hockey game, Rosthern versus Shellbrook I, in Shellbrook.  This game was originally scheduled for Nov 20, but was moved to Nov 18.

- Sunday & Monday, Nov 18 & 19, 7:00 pm - RJC ON STAGE Fall Theatre in the Pit Theatre.  The RJC Theatre Arts class is preparing a stage version of the classic Alfred Hitchcock movie mystery "The 39 Steps."  The Musical Theatre class will present excerpts from "Godspell" - a story based on the book of Matthew.  Tickets are $10 each and are still available for both performances.  Call RJC at 306 232-4222 to reserve.

- RJC TRAVELING OPEN HOUSE in Regina, November 30.

- GRADUATION PORTRAITS for Grade 12 students will be taken by Lifetouch Photographers at RJC on Monday, December 3.  Please try to ensure that your child does not have other appointments scheduled for that day, as no retake date is scheduled for Semester One.  More information to follow.

- RJC CHRISTMAS CONCERTS:  

- December 15, 7:30 pm -  CHRISTMAS CONCERT at Knox United Church, Saskatoon (Chorale, Women's Choir & guest choir Sonrisa)

- December 21, 7:00 pm - RJC CHRISTMAS CONCERT in the school gymnasium (*Concert Choir, Chorale, Women's Choir).  

*Concert Choir performances are part of the curriculum requirements for Choral 10/20/30, and all choir students are expected to attend.

 Admission to all our choir programs is free.  An offering will be taken at Knox United and the RJC Christmas Concert.

- CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS – Saturday, December 22 to Wednesday, January 2, 2013.  Dorms close Friday evening following the Christmas Concert, and re-open Wednesday, January 2, at 3:00 pm.  Classes resume Thursday, January 3, 8:30 am.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

- WINTER PARKING:  There are still a few electrified parking spots available for day and resident students.  These spaces are available on a first-come first-served basis until they are all spoken for. The cost for an electrical parking spot is $100 for the year.  The spaces are located on the west side of the gymnasium and will be assigned to each student.  Let the office know if your student needs one.

- WEEKLY SIGN-OUTS:  Parents, please remember that the deans need to have weekend plans solidified by Wednesday nights.

RJC Update Nov 6-13

CONGRATULATIONS to the RJC Girls' Volleyball team who finished in first place at the Conference playoffs last weekend, and now advance to Regionals!  

  

EVENTS THIS WEEK INCLUDE:

- Thursday, November 8, 1:00-6:00 pm - PARENT / TEACHER / DEAN INTERVIEWS,  in the RJC Rehearsal Hall.  Parents will have an opportunity to meet with RJC staff Thursday afternoon from 1:00-6:00 pm (come-and-go basis).  

- Friday-Monday, November 9-12 - NOVEMBER REMEMBRANCE DAY LONG WEEKEND - Classes end at noon on Thursday, with Parent / Teacher / Dean Interviews beginning at 1:00 pm in the rehearsal hall.  The school and dorms are closed for the long weekend.  No supper will be served on Thursday.  Dorms open again on Monday at 3:00 pm, and classes resume Tuesday, November 13 at 8:30 am.

- Friday, November 9 - Boys' Volleyball Conference playoffs at Saskatoon Christian School (Hwy 16 & Boychuk Drive, Saskatoon).   Go to http://www.shsaa.ca/ets-game-results/4157 to see the draw.

PLEASE NOTE:  For all SHSAA playoff tournaments (volleyball, football & soccer) the SHSAA mandates that the hosting schools collect a gate admission.  If you are planning to attend these events, please be prepared to pay admission.  This money is collected, forwarded to the SHSAA and they, in turn, pay for the officials for these events.  Thank you for your cooperation.

- RJC CORPORATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - Saturday, November 17 in the school chapel (2nd floor), between 5:00 and 6:00 pm.  This meeting is an important time for acknowledging the past year and planning for the current fiscal year.  Everyone welcome.

- RJC FUNDRAISING AND APPRECIATION BANQUET - Saturday, November 17, 6:00 pm in the school gymnasium.  Everyone is invited to join us for an evening of connecting with friends and supporting the mission of the school.  This year's guest speaker will be Kim Pityn, Chief Operations Officer of MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Association) who will speak about "Sustainable Tools That Give Hope to the World".  The evening will feature live music performances from several individuals and groups in the RJC Alumni community. A Silent and Live Auction will also be held, and an offering will be taken during the event to fundraise for the programming of RJC.  To reserve your complimentary tickets call 306.232.4222 or email office@rjc.sk.ca by November 8th, so that the kitchen can prepare for the numbers expected.  Limited tickets available!

Deeper Life Days October 29 and 30.

Deeper Life Days 2012, Oct. 29 & 30

Each year RJC sets aside two days for ‘Deeper Life Days’ to focus on a spiritually significant theme.  This year’s theme was ‘Sex, Hugs, and Rock ‘n Roll: A Biblical approach to the Christian Life in the 21^st Century’.  Speaker Irma Fast Dueck, a professor from Canadian Mennonite University, lead three sessions entitled: 1) ‘Sex’ (and sexuality), 2) ‘Hugs’ (intimacy in relationships), and 3) ‘Rock ‘n Roll’ (media’s role in constructing societal norms and expectations).  Jesse Doell, youth pastor at Hague Mennonite, also lead a session thematically entitled ‘I used to be a Metal-head’ where he discussed some things he has learned about the power of media (including music and pornography) to influence our views of one another.  Both speakers compared general societal views, which tend to focus on ‘the self’, with a biblical narrative that focuses on ‘loving the other’.  Students were challenged to follow the biblical narrative as they create, live, and imagine their own story based on a different set of values than that of the world.

The chapel was decorated with hearts hanging from the ceiling, each with a different student’s name.  On the back of each heart was a bible verse or statement of faith that encouraged the students to believe they were beautiful just the way God created them, in spite of how inadequate advertising makes them feel.  In closing, the Faith and Life Committee randomly distributed the hearts while the student body sat in a circle.  The students’ task was to find the person whose heart they were given and remind them they are created by God and beautiful.

The RJC Faith and Life Committee contributed with student lead sessions with the titles ‘The Pressure to Be Perfect’, ‘It’s OK to be single’, and ‘Male Pride and Emotional Detachment’ where Eric Epp, RJC’s student body co-president, encouraged male students to be open to shedding ‘man tears’.

Students also engaged in some fun game-centered learning which involved a student body ‘speed-friending’ exercise as well as ‘relationship dodgeball’ in the gymnasium. Further Deeper Life Days events included a theme filled lunch and a movie night where students watched the inspirational movie “To Save a Life”.

Sadie Hawkins 2012 - Looney Tunes

The Girls Dorm Council planned the annual Sadie Hawkins Event.  It is an all-school event that has the girls 'asking out' their 'dates' in all kinds of creative ways.  This year's theme was 'Saturday morning cartoons'.  The students dressed up like their favorite Looney Tunes characters and enjoyed a 'breakfast feast' of waffles with a variety of toppings and bacon and sausage.  The evening activity was postponed until next week due to weather and road conditions.  They will travel to Prince Albert on Halloween day for a fun filled evening of activity to finish off the event.

RJC Update Oct 30-Nov 6

CONGRATULATIONS to the RJC Girls' Soccer team who captured the 1A Provincial Silver Medal in Outlook last weekend!

Kielke Supper at Bethany Manor

Around 300 people showed up at Bethany Manor for the Kielke & Sausage Fundraising Supper yesterday evening. They were treated to a fine meal of traditional noodles (Kielke, pronounced "cheel-cha") and a performance by RJC Chorale under the direction of Richard Janzen.  It is gratifying to see such support for a school like RJC!

It was a nice mix of generations, including RJC Alumni and future RJC students!

RJC Update Oct 23-30

EVENTS THIS WEEK INCLUDE:

- Tuesday, Oct 23, 5:30-7:30 pm - RJC Kielke & Sausage Supper Fundraiser at Bethany Manor - Fellowship Hall, 110 LaRonge Road, Saskatoon (please use the main entrance).  Admission is by donation, and the RJC Chorale will perform at 6:30 pm.  Parking is available in the main building parking lot and on La Ronge Road, or at the Temple directly across the street.  Everyone is welcome.

- Wednesday, Oct 24 – Sadie Hawkins event for students (supper & evening activities).

- Thursday, Oct 25, 3:30 pm – Boys' volleyball game at RJC versus Valley Christian Academy (Osler).

- Friday, Oct 26 – Term End.  Reports cards and dorm reports will be mailed on or before November 2.

- Friday & Saturday, October 26 & 27:

            - Girls' Volleyball tournament at LCBI (Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute) at Outlook.

            - Boys' Volleyball tournament at Saskatoon Christian School (Hwy 16 & Boychuk Drive, Saskatoon).

             - Girls' Provincial Soccer playoffs at Outlook High School.  Congratulations to the RJC girls' soccer team who have advanced to Provincial playoffs at Outlook High School this Friday.  RJC will play Outlook High School at 3:00 pm on Friday, with the winning team playing in the gold medal final on Saturday.   

            - Saturday, Oct 27, 1:00 pm - Rosthern will host the 2A Six-Man Football Provincial Quarter Final at Rosthern High School versus Preeceville School.
