Spiritual Class Retreats 2013-14

Immediately following the Opening Program on Sunday September 15th each class left for their Spiritual Class Retreats.

Grade 10 Retreat

The grade 10 class left for a two day retreat to Christopher Lake, 90 minutes north of Rosthern.  The theme for the retreat was 'Risking New Beginnings'.  Besides exploring this theme through 4 sessions, time was spent relaxing, getting to know one another, and doing a variety of activities.  John and Cathy Ayres generously supplied their boat for Monday afternoon's activities on the water.  The weather was perfect for being on the water.  Special thanks to Duane Hearn for generously driving the boat all afternoon and to Pat Hildebrandt for helping out in the kitchen.

Jim and Joel lead the sessions for the retreats.  They used the story of Moses to explore the theme.

Grade 11 Retreat - Camp Kinasao

The grade 11s went to Camp Kinasao for their retreat where they were challenged by Pastor Ben Pauls of Waldheim to recognize God's hand in all situations. Ben used the stories of the Apostle Peter, the Good Samaritan, and some current day stories to show how with God's help, good can come from what at first seems negative.

In their free time the 11s played many group games and even got a chance to enjoy the cool waters in the lake during a beautiful weather weekend.

Grade 12 Retreat

This year's Grade 12 class retreat was at the Salvation Army Beaver Creek Camp, south of Saskatoon.  Patrick Preheim from Nutana Park Mennonite Church was our speaker, and he addressed the theme 'How to make the most of your Gr. 12 year' in a series of three sessions.  WIth the use of biblical and personal stories Patrick challenged the students to reconcile their past and dream for the future to make the most of their final year of high school

RJC Opening Dedication Program - Sept 15th

RJC's Opening Dedication Program was held Sunday September 15th. The audience was filled with parents, grandparents, alumni and friends of RJC.  We appreciate their continued support.

Ryan presented last year's Governor General Bronze Medal Award and the General Proficiency Award to Nicole Brockman.  Nicole was unable to attend to accept both of her academic awards as she is away participating in CMU's South Africa Outtatown Program.  Congratulations Nicole!

Leah Pomedli was the lucky recipient of the iPad.  By meeting the early application date, Leah's name was entered into a draw for the iPad along with many other students.

Enough is enough!  30+ degrees in the classroom is no fun!  Time to play hooky. The SRC and DC planned an afternoon of fun in the sun.  Student teams rotated through a variety of activities at the Valley Regional Park.  It was a great way to spend a hot afternoon!

Opening Coffee House-Sept 8

To lead off the second week of school, the students held their first coffeehouse Sunday evening.  The first year students were 'encouraged' to participate in many of the activities and skits.  Both new and returning students shared their talents through many musical numbers.   MC's for the evening were Morgan and Leah.

READY, SET, GO!

It was an exciting Labor Day on the RJC campus.  The air was filled with excitement and nervous energy.  Students registered for the 2013-14 school year and moved into the dormitories.  

Cam registers his two daughters, Kenzie and Alexa,  for the upcoming year.

To cap off the day, the SRC and DC planned an evening of mixer games.  The gym heated up as everyone burnt off energy and a ton of calories!

On Tuesday, time was set a side for a commissioning service for  the SRC and DC.  They were affirmed their role as student leaders 

Craig Neufeld pastor of RMC brought words of encouragement.

John and Kathy Ayres parents of Laura (SRC co-pres) also brought words of encouragement and affirmation.

The staff affirms and supports the students as they go into the year.

Time does not stand still at RJC.  Immediately following the first day of classes, tryouts for the fall roster of teams began. Girls volleyball kicks off the session this weekend and the first home Longhorns football game is next week!  No time to waste!

Gearing Up for the New 2013-14 School Year!

Staff are busy preparing for the return of students for the 2013-2014 school year.  It's been a busy week of taking care of details, getting to know new staff members and preparing our hearts and minds for the work that lies ahead of us.  We took one day off from typical school preparations and as a staff spent a day in Saskatoon working on two Habitat work sites.  The day ended at the MCC centre where Ryan lead us in a time of devotion and reflection.  It was a great way to set the stage for this year.  We are ready! Bring it on!
