RJC presents the annual Open House

RJC's Open House 2011 was a great success!

We had over 100 guests join us for the evening. The kitchen staff prepared a wonderful meal for us as we began our evening together over dinner. We even had ice cream!

Then the tours began. Starting with the dorm tours, where the girls adorned different animal costumes and offered their guests animal crackers. The boy's dorm was an adventure of a different animal, guests became part of an old spice commercial on the second floor and on the third floor were met by Darth Vader and Storm Troopers.  You could tell that both the boy's and girl's dorm students worked hard to make their rooms extra special for their visitors.

The next stop was the school tours where guests were escorted around the school to a variety of stops. They learned about the programs offered at RJC, danced in the Chapel, shot hoops in the gym, watched a video about our service trips, played "name that SRDC student" and tried to find people in pictures for licorice.  Not to mention meeting lots of green men in the hallways. Great job tour guides and Station Leaders!

Wrestling and Bacon? Sadie Hawkins and Lama's?

Then it was time for RJC's famous Coffee House.
The students were stunning. Such a variety of talent that was showcased throughout the evening.
Each performance was as good as the one before. You could tell by the applause that the audience enjoyed each act.

 MC's Evan & Jamieson

Evan and Jamieson did a fabulous job hosting the event and the panel of guest judges added a little extra something to the evening. I don't understand, however, what Sean Connery was doing in Rosthern, and how he was available to make it on Friday? But he made the coffee house extra special as did the other celebrities on the panel.

RJC's Open House 2011 could not have gone better!

RJC students worked tirelessly to make the school sparkle for their guests and guests were made welcome and had a fantastic evening. The RJC students all pitched in and worked hard all week and it was evident to everyone who attended the evening.

Well done students you made the night a GREAT success!

Building Project update

Work on the much anticipated Learning Commons and Gathering Space increased in pace and urgency as the volunteer workers tried their best to meet a Christmas deadline for completion.

Margo, RJC Accountant and Peter, Project Manager, go over statements and accounts to make sure that all the bills are being paid on time.

Gail even took a day off from her normal duties in the Principal's office to lend a hand painting. Bruno, a key volunteer on this project is seen in the background working on the plumbing for a soon to be installed sink in the servery area of the Gathering Space.
Volunteers Louis and Eldon team up to install railings on the new stairs.
Students lent a hand and learned a thing or two about installing light fixtures as well. Luke and Jamieson follow the lead of Jamieson's dad and faithful volunteer John.
Gail took a moment during the Christmas Program at RJC to acknowledge the efforts of those volunteers in attendance who have worked on the Learning Commons and Gathering Space project. Those pictured below are only a part of a much larger volunteer effort.
Finishing touches and furnishings are all that is needed to complete the Student Commons project. While it would be too long a list to mention all volunteers who have helped make this possible, special mention does need to be made of several who have worked from beginning to end including Project Manager Peter S, Peter G., Bruno K., Armin K., Darren S. and John F. along with the dozens of others who contributed their time and skills in so many ways. Thank you!!
