Chapel Report
Friday June 14,
2013
As our school year
comes to an end, so does our chapel program. On June 10th Principal Jim Epp used chapel time
to outline grad week expectations for the students. He also encouraged students to stay focused, make wise
decision, and finish strong.
On June 11th
the staff announced the winners of the ‘Record Setting Spectacular’ student
fundraiser, and then students were dismissed to attend their final committee
meetings for the year. This gave
the Faith and Life Committee time to prepare for their final chapel on June 13
where they gave an overview of the year and read some student responses to
Psalm 23 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want”, this year’s faith
and Life theme. Both students and
staff were amazed with the depth of student reflection. Thank you to the Faith and Life
Committee for an excellent job coordinating chapels this year.
Next year's Faith and Life coordinators, Gabby and Benjamin end chapel with a prayer. |
On June 12th
athletic director Adam Ens featured highlights from our spring sports:
badminton and track and field. As
is tradition, this event was followed by donuts in the rehearsal hall.
On June 14th was Staff Awards Chapel. The assembly began with the
presentation of certificates for students who met Community Involvement
Standards for the year. Students meet
the standards by getting points for their involvement in school events where
participation is voluntary. The
staff also presented five Grade 12 plaques that awarded annually to graduating
students for excellence in the arts, academics, athletics and community
leadership. A Co-Presidents plaque is also awarded to
the out-going co-presidents who this year were Jay Warkentin and Eric Epp. Eric Epp and Crystal Lau shared the
Arts plaque, Nicole Brockman was awarded the academic plaque, Liam Peters and (six-time
bronze medalist in his two years at RJC) received the athletic plaque, and Jaye
Warkentin received the Leadership in Community plaque for her contributions to
the RJC community throughout her two years at RJC.
On June 17 was our
final chapel of the year. RJC
Alumni President, Denelda Fast, welcomed the graduates to the alumni
association and on our final chapel day and presented them each with an RJC key
chain, compliments of the alumni association. Spiritual Life Coordinator Ryan Wood closed the chapel with
a final benediction. This wrapped
up a busy chapel year. Thank God
for his blessing on us throughout the year and thank you to all who made
chapels a meaningful experience for all of us at RJC this year!
