Chapel Report
Friday February
14, 2014
The SRC kicked off
Semester Two with activities for Milk Week during chapel time during the first
week of February. Events included
milk Jeopardy, mooosical chairs, and a milk relay, all of which were a big hit
with students and udderly fun to watch!
The Faith and Life
Committee has continued to promote their ‘Have a Heart’ fundraising campaign in
chapel. A recent update has the
girls ahead of the boys in the friendly competition to raise the most funds. Fundraising events have included
selling cookie dough, delivering flowers and candy-grams for Valentine’s Day,
and selling cupcakes at lunch.
Some students and staff are also knitting scarves and toques. All money raised will be donated to the
RES breakfast program, the Paraguayan Recycled Orchestra (visiting RJC in May),
and the Anadesa community in Guatemala.
On Mon. Feb. 10th
residence dean Timothy Block shared in chapel. He surveyed a biblical understanding of the concept of love
(complete with a slides!) and challenged the students to be wise in their
relationship choices. He shared
some humorous and insightful examples from his own experiences.
On Wed. Feb. 12 music
teacher Richard Janzen discussed the upcoming June musical. He is still awaiting approval for the
musical of choice, so no musical was announced, but he gave a timeline for
audition process and a calendar of related events. The June musical has become an integral part of the RJC
tradition and Richard hopes to make an announcement shortly.
