RJC Update April 29-May 6

EVENTS THIS WEEK INCLUDE:

- Thursday-Sunday, May 1-4 - CAMS Music Festival (Canadian Association of Mennonite Schools) in Calgary.  RJC Chorale will be participating in this event.  The Sunday performance is at Ambrose University College, 150 Ambrose Cir SW, Calgary.  Doors open at 2:30 pm, and the concert is at 3:00 pm.


- Saturday, May 3 - Regional Badminton at Valley Christian Academy, Osler.  Congratulations and best wishes to the following students who competed at Conference finals and have qualified for Regional playoffs this weekend:  

- Haley Enns (1st  in Girls' Conference Singles) 
- Lyndsey Hildebrandt (2nd in Girls' Conference Singles)
- Cheyenne Epp & Danielle Brockman (1st in Girls' Conference Doubles)


- Tuesday, May 6, 7:00 pm - PARAGUAYAN RECYCLED ORCHESTRA CONCERT.   Rosthern Junior College and Eigenheim Mennonite Church are hosting a performance of the Paraguayan Recycled Orchestra in the RJC auditorium.  The Recycled Orchestra is comprised of students from Cateura, Paraguay who play instruments made from recycled goods collected from the garbage dump near where they live.  They have recently traveled the world to raise funds to improved their school, and educational programs in Paraguay.

In conjunction with the show, the RJC Peace and Justice Studies class will display a 'Rethink/Recycle' art exhibit in the Rehearsal Hall before and after the performances.  Join us for an inspirational evening of story and music to see how hope is rising in one of South America's poorest communities.  This will be the only Saskatchewan stop on their Canadian Tour.  To reserve your tickets please contact Gwen Ens at recycled.rosthern@gmail.com or call 306 232-9117.


- Wednesday, May 7 - Grade 10 students will participate in the P.A.R.T.Y.  Program (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Related Trauma in Youth) here in Rosthern, hosted by the Saskatoon Health Region.


UPCOMING EVENTS:

- RJC AMAZING RACE Sr High Event, May 10:   RJC is hosting an "Amazing Race" event for students in grades 9-12 - a scavenger hunt with all the thrills of the Amazing Race and a dash of trivial pursuit.  Teams of 5-6 will navigate the town of Rosthern on foot, solving clues and facing fun challenges.  It will be a GREAT day followed by supper and an awards ceremony in the Dining Hall.  Registration forms available at www.rjc.sk.ca or email  val@rjc.sk.ca.

You are invited to participate in our first RJC AMAZING RACE Event! This event will happen on Saturday, May 10th at 1:00 PM here on campus and around our town. We will need volunteers to help with team registration, orientation, helping out at challenges or roadblocks, before the event, during the event and the award ceremony after. If you would be willing to come out on SATURDAY, MAY 10th to help, please email Valerie White at val@rjc.sk.ca. Thank you so much for your help! 


- RJC SPRING CHOIR CONCERT, May 10, 7:00 pm:   Everyone is invited to our annual Spring Choir Concert on Saturday evening.  Season finale performances by Concert Choir, ManChoir and Chorale will highlight the evening.  Admission is free; an offering will be taken during the concert.  We look forward to having you join us for an evening of wonderful music.    


VICTORIA DAY DESIGNATED WEEKEND, May 16-19:   School will be dismissed at 3:00 pm on Thursday, and dorms will be closed at 5:30 pm (no supper served).  The dorms will re-open on Monday, May 19 at 3:00 pm (supper available), and classes will resume Tuesday morning, May 20 at 8:30 am.  All students need to make arrangements to travel home or stay with family or friends.  If you are able to help us out by inviting one of our students to spend the weekend with your family, please let us know by calling the Deans' Office (306 232-5665) or the RJC Business Office (306 232-4222).
 

- RJC SPRING CLASSIC GOLF TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER, May 24 - Join us at the Valley Regional Park, Rosthern, for a Texas Scramble Golf Tournament.  Sign up individually or as a team ($125/person or $500/team).  This event includes on-course contests and challenges, and a banquet and silent auction at RJC following the tournament.  Information and registration forms are available on the RJC website at www.rjc.sk.ca or contact rjcgolf@rjc.sk.ca.  If you are interested in being a corporate sponsor, or donating team prizes or silent auction items, please contact Dan Richert at dan@rjc.sk.ca.
