Fashion Do's and Don'ts

SRC members presented a fashion show during Chapel time last week to help the new students (and the returning students) understand the 'do's and don'ts of RJC dress code!

Heidi Epp models dress code that has been defaced. Definitely a fashion no-no!

Although the legging are fine the long sleeves under Samantha Bloomfield dress code shirt violates section 2.34.8 of dress code!

Erik Epp demonstrates a definite male fashion faux pas .....sorry boys....no jumpers allowed for you!

Taylor Epp shows the proper way to accessorize RJC dress code.

Pictures! Pictures! Pictures!

We take a lot of pictures here at RJC! We love to highlight the activities and especially the students themselves during the school year. We do this for many, many reasons. We use them for website blog updates (check us out at www.rjc.sk.ca ) , newsletters, school displays, yearbook and especially for the year end slideshow. During the year we have many requests from parents and students for jpg files of pictures that they have seen displayed. Unfortunately, due to the vast quantity of pictures we keep on file and the time it would take to locate each requested picture, it has not been possible to honor these requests. However, (being a parent myself), I understand fully why parents and students would like to have access to the pictures we have. After all, high school is a unique time in their lives and having a photograph depicting their experiences only becomes more treasured as the years go by.

For that reason Lloyd has been searching for an efficient way to make this possible. He think he have found a solution to this problem. He has found a website that will host our pictures and allow you to download any file you want, any size you want. You then can keep it on file yourself or have a print made from your file. I have downloaded the majority of the pictures that I thought the parents would be most interested in for the previous 2008-2009 school year. The pictures are in SETS ordered by DATE and ACTIVITY. Hopefully this will help you locate sport pictures, team pictures or isolate a particular event.

To access these files you need to go to www.flickr.com . In the search box type rosthernjrcollege and click on search. Then click on the RJC shield. Then click on rosthernjrcollege's photostream (to the right on the screen). Then choose sets, (left hand side under the large type). From here you can choose whatever file you would like to look at. Click on, all sizes, choose the size you would like and download!

These pictures will remain on this website until the end of June 2010.
I apologize for the vast number of pictures in each file but since every parent is looking for pictures of their own child I could not pare them down. (Not to mention the time it would take!) A fast computer would definitely put you at an advantage!

For the current parents of this years’ student body, please be aware that we are planning to post the 2009-2010 pictures at the end of June 2010 on this website. This way you can access pictures of your sons or daughter then.

We are hopeful that this will be a good solution to our dilemma. Your children are beautiful people and we enjoy capturing that in print!

RJC takes the afternoon off!

Wow, has the temperature been hot. It is making the first week of school somewhat challenging! We are trying not to complain since we have been waiting for months for +30 temperatures to happen. We just didn't imagine that we would be in dress code and sitting in a hot classroom when it finally did!

The students have been doing very well trying to cope under these conditions. We decided to take last Thursday afternoon off to enjoy the sun. The student body was transported out to the Valley Regional Park about 2 miles down the road. We had a great time playing beach volleyball, kick-ball and mini-golf. Of course the best part was playing in the water and getting each other wet!

Torrey Falconer and Allison Goerzen enjoy the sun.

John Baker sets the volleyball.

Spencer Russell putting for birdie.
Baily Neufeld and Heidi Epp stop to pose during their round of golf.

Parker Olfert takes on the wishing well challenge.

Playground equipment has a certain appeal to it...at any age!

Jordan Wiens give it a whirl.
Jim Cheng and John Aubichon take a ride on the zip line.

Of course the water was the most popular draw of the afternoon.

Relief from the heat!

Moving in day!

As most parents would agree, Sunday was a long, hot day full of anxiety, excitement and long waits. By the end of the day we had the majority of the current year's student body registered and moved into the dorms. We are still waiting on a few late arrivals but by in large we began Monday morning with a full slate of students.

The SRC and DC students were all on hand Sunday afternoon to greet and welcome the students. They were most willing to lend a helpful hand to students moving into the dorm. Thankfully we were blessed with a sunny warm day.

Jordan Nickel, with his parents Heather and James, registers for his Grade 11 year. Heather is an alumnus of RJC.

Denelda Fast helping daugher Hillary choose her courses with the help of Lloyd Schmidt. Hillary is the 5th and youngest child of Denelda and Larry Fast to attend RJC.

Helpful DC members, Baily Neufeld, Lori Pauls, Erika Hooge and Heidi Epp 'swarm' to help Tiera Goertz with her belongings.

Erika Hooge, Leon Pomedli and Chandler Ericson-Lemaigre lend Carly Dyck and her parents a helping hand.

The busy move in day ended with an evening of 'getting to know you' games in the gym. The students then went on a 'walk a mile' around the town of Rosthern.

We're baacck! The 2009-10 School Year begins

Great excitement and anticipation filled the RJC hallways as SRC and DC leadership students returned to campus to prepare for the new school year. Much needed to be done before the rest of the student body arrived for registration weekend! After the squealing and hugging subsided the real work began. The group attended sessions to learn about leadership using the servanthood model. They then met in smaller groups to do the actual physical preparation for the weekend.

Allison Schmidt and Katie McLellan prepare posters for the weekend.

Jordan Wiens and Kim Koop work on the welcoming message on the white board.

Jon Willie and Monica Siemens prepare the schedule for the first week of school.

Hannah Jones decorates the welcome bags that were provided by the RJC auxillary for both new and returning students.

Before the larger student body arrived we paused during our busy preparations to take time to affirm the students in their roles as leaders. A commissioning service was held in the chapel on Friday.

Allan Friesen, pastor at Eigenheim Mennonite Church brought encouragement to the students.

Joanne Epp, parent to Heidi Epp, this year SRC co-president , challenged the leaders to remember that every student is someone's son or daughter, that they are someone else's most precious belonging. She reminded them that parents are entrusting them to care for their loved one.

Ryan Wood, staff member at RJC brought a request, a challenge and an encouragement to the students. He requested that the students 'don't settle', challenged them to 'bring it' by rising to the position that they have been called to fill. He then encouraged them by reminding them that they were chosen by their fellow students and teachers to fulfill this role, that their many gifts were recognized by those around them.

The commissioning service ended with the staff surrounding the students with their support and prayers.

Special recognition was given to Carissa Brockman for her efforts in developing the Pennies for Poverty campaign. It started with a strong desire to do her part to alleviate poverty. Over the three years that Carissa attended RJC she saw her dream grow to raise several thousands of dollars that was donated to projects in Guatemala.
There were very many more deserving individuals in our student body, but unfortunately we were not able to give all of our students awards. The decisions were very difficult to make. The RJC staff feel very privileged to have worked with such a talented group of students.
