Chapel Review Weekending October 18th

Chapel Report
Friday Oct. 18, 2013

RJC hosted Kaytee Edwards, Community Engagement Coordinator at Mennonite Central Committee Saskatchewan, in chapel on Tues. Oct. 15.  Kaytee introduced the students to MCC and explained her history of involvement with the organization where she began as a volunteer with the Kids’ Club program at Meadow Green in Saskatoon’s Southwest end.  Kaytee encouraged the students to get involved in their communities and with MCC—you never know where it might lead.  Kaytee will be helping coordinate RJC’s annual Alternative Service and Learning Opportunities (ALSO) week in Saskatoon this year.

On Thurs. Oct. 17 the Faith and Life Committee organized a school wide game of “Kindness Twin Twin Day Day” dodgeball.  The game used this month’s ‘I Cor. 13 love-word’ (kindness) in tandem with the Twin Twin Day Day dress-up day planned by the Spirit Committee to create a unique dodgeball game where twins (students and/or staff who dressed in similar clothing for the day) linked arms and worked together while playing dodgeball.  Hilarity ensued, and students returned to class feeling even more in tune with their twin!

A pep rally was held during chapel on Fri. Oct. 18 to recognize the beginning of playoffs for Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer and the Longhorns football team.  The volleyball teams were also competing this weekend, and are heading into the crucial last legs of their seasons before playoffs.  Prayers were offered for all involved.

The pep rally ended with a 'cheer off' . . . Which side of the chapel could cheer  'We are Mennonite. . . "  the loudest!

Chapel Review Weekending October 11th

Chapel Report
Friday Oct. 11, 2013

Local storyteller Ric Driediger shared in chapel on Mon. Oct. 7.  He told the story of the parable of the tenants and creatively imagined a sequel in which he challenged to student body to share what they have been given with others.  This was a fitting theme for the Thanksgiving week.

The Christian College Tour made its annual stop in chapel this week.  The tour represents the Bible Colleges of Saskatchewan and encourages students to consider Bible College as a post-secondary option.  The students enjoyed the worship music and being able to enter their names in all of the schools’ draws!

On Oct. 9 the Faith and Life Committee planned a chapel where students sang, prayed, and wrote items they were thankful for on colourul turkey cutouts.  These papers were used as table decorations during the thanksgiving meal at lunch, and were a great reminder of what God has provided.

On Oct. 10 Kenna and Kathleen lead the student body in chorus music and Ryan Wood shared a thanksgiving message and coordinated some Thanksgiving themed group activities during the final chapel before the Thanksgiving break.

Chapel Review weekending October 4th

Chapel Report
Friday Oct. 4, 2013

On Wed. Oct. 2, principal Jim Epp reminded the student body about the importance of living and caring within community.  Using scripture he build a case for the need to be patient and kind with one another, and encouraged the student body to put this in practice as we now have been living in community for over one month and inevitable challenges will occur.

On Thurs. Oct. 3 the Faith and Life committee unveiled their ‘love-focus’ for October: Kindness.  They distributed cards that had each student’s name and had other students write kind comments for each other.  These encouragement cards were delivered to each student in the school.

RJC students participated in a Terry Fox Run on Fri. Oct. 4, 2013.

Students were encouraged to continue to vision of Terry Fox and each donate a dollar; many donated more!

Students could either walk or run the course.
