Chapel Report
Friday November 1,
2013
Each year the
teaching and dean staff members share in chapel. Staff is invited to combine life experience with the Faith
and Life theme with the year, which this year is “What is Love?” (I Cor.
13:4-7). Staff chapels began on
Oct. 21 with Ryan Wood sharing lessons he has learned through training for 10K
runs. Ryan shared his running
playlist with the students and compared his experience of running with running
the race of life. Teacher Bev Epp
shared on Mon. Oct. 28. Bev used
power point quotes and pictures of students to demonstrate how lovely students
really are, and encouraged students to ‘choose love’ in their lives.

Rosthern Mennonite
Church pastor Craig Neufeldt visited chapel on Wed. Oct. 23 and presented an
overview of his recent pastoral exchange visit to China. His presentation was titled “The Church
on the Other Side of the World”.
Craig made the trip come alive for students with the use of stories,
history and slides and challenged student to consider their own freedom of
religion compared to life in China.
He also encouraged students to consider China as a travel destination
and an area of further study and reflection.

Continuing with the
monthly love-focus of ‘Kindness’ the Faith and Life Committee showed the
youtube hit “Validation” in chapel on Thurs. Oct. 24. This reminded students of the importance of validating and
encouraging one another. Building
on this, on Oct. 30 the committee coordinated a ‘Hug Chapel’ where students
names, times, and ‘hug-types’ were drawn at random and students (and even some
staff!) were called to the front to hug!
We were reminded of the importance of expressing kindness to one another
in a fun way, and students really embraced the idea!

On Oct. 25, Robert
Koop shared in chapel. Robert Koop
works with the Navigators Ministry at the University of Saskatchewan in
Saskatoon, and resides in Rosthern.
Mr. Koop focused his talk on the importance of language referring to God
highlighting that terms like ‘OMG!’ (‘Oh my God!) are prevalent in our
society. Mr. Koop encouraged
students to be mindful when they call on the name of God.

On Thursday Oct. 31
Ryan Wood spoke about the history and Christian roots of Halloween and All
Saints’ Day. Little Red Riding
Hood and the Mad Trapper read scripture and prayers for all saints, living and
dead, were spoken. Principal Jim
Epp also reminded students of the norms and expectations for Halloween in
Rosthern and at RJC--treats, not tricks!
Students enjoyed the treats provided for them by staff the next day in
class!
