Chapel Report
Friday November
22, 2013
Continuing with staff
chapels, Karalee Kuny shared in chapel on Wed. Nov. 13. Students appreciated her use of
multi-media and video clips to explore the theme ‘What is Love?’. Karalee shared that at RJC she
has been challenged to be not only a caring teacher, but also a loving
one.
On Thurs. Nov. 14 the
Faith and Life Student Committee organized a game of ‘Hangman’ on the
whiteboard in the chapel, boys versus girls of course! What made this version of ‘Hangman’ different
was that Committee members kept erasing the body parts of the hangman. This was meant to help students reflect
on this month’s ‘love focus’, which is ‘Love keeps no record of wrongs’.
On Fri. Nov. 15, Susan Huxman-Schultz,
President of Conrad Grebel University College, spoke in chapel. Huxman-Schultz was visiting campus as
the guest speaker for our Annual Fundraising Banquet.
Mennonite Disaster
Service rep. Janet Plenert joined us in chapel on Mon. Nov. 18. She shared about the work and mission
of MDS, and showed some slides of recent natural disasters in the United
States. RJC will be working with
MDS at High River as part of our ALSO week this spring.
Kathy Moorman from the Saskatoon Health
Region was in chapel on Tues. Nov. 19 to educate students as part of
‘Addictions Awareness Week’. She
used a Jeopardy-style game to raise awareness about addictions issues. We appreciate Kathy’s willingness
to educate our students about these important issues facing youth.
On Wed. Nov. 21 the Faith and Life
Committee lit the first advent candle and started the advent season
Faith and Life committee members - Laura and Gabby
. On Friday Nov. 22, Ryan Wood used
chapel time to prepare students for RJC’s upcoming Youth Environmental
Stewardship and Sustainability Summit (The YESS! Summit), which will happen on
Thurs. Nov. 28. RJC will host
students from Rosthern High School, Beardy’s & Okemasis, and Oskyak High
School during this event.
