RJC's 'Have a Heart' Campaign Meets $5000 Goal!

RJC’s ‘Have a Heart’ Campaign Raises Meets $5000 Goal for Local & Global Charities!

On February 3rd, 2014 the RJC Faith and Life committee launched their annual ‘Have a Heart’ fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $5000.  To inspire students to meet this goal the Faith and Life Committee made collecting money a friendly competition between boys and girls and established prizes for meeting targets along the way.  The team in the lead at the time would receive the following prizes:  At $1000.00 the students duct taped Karalee to the wall, at $2000 sundae bar at lunch, at $3000.00 Jake G. would wax his chest hair in chapel, at $4000.00 a study hour party, and at $5000 teacher Ryan Wood would let the Faith and Life Committee shave and style his hair, and wear it like that for a week.  The event ended on March 18 with a total of $5,521.66, and the Faith and Life Committee creatively cut and styled teacher Ryan Wood’s hair during a school assembly in the chapel!  Jake G. also had his chest waxed the week before.

During the campaign students were encouraged to not simply ask for money, but to use their gifts, talents, and creativity in their fundraising.  Some students sold items like knitted scarves, cookie dough, and muffins while others held bake sales during coffee time at their churches.  The staff did their part and donated items for a staff auction, and the faith and life committee auctioned off their services for the day as well.  The SRC organized a ‘date with Kelsey Dueck’ as their contribution to the auction.  Each Friday of the fundraiser was a ‘dress code free day’ if students paid a toonie.

When all was said and done, the students rose to the challenge and raised enough money to support all three of their projects.  Proceeds will go to the following groups: 1) $750.00 to the Rosthern Elementary School Breakfast Program, 2) $1,271.66 to The Paraguayan Recycled Orchestra (Performing at RJC on Tues. Feb. 6th), and 3) $3,500.00 for The ANADESA Community Complex in Guatemala (where students will visit and work during their ALSO trip this year).

This year marked the 8th annual Faith & Life Fundraiser, an event that has now raised over $35,000 for local and global projects.    Thank you to everyone who supported this successful event!
